PMU Lip Blush Myths & Facts

There’s no hush about lip blush. Along with microblading, lip blushing is one of the PMU trends that’s taken over the beauty world. We’re here to give you all the myths & facts of lip blush from an artist’s perspective.

What is lip blushing?

Lip blushing is a type of permanent makeup that gives color and shape to the natural lip. It’s not a filler but gives the effect of fullness. The result is natural and looks like lip stain.

Who is it for?

Lip blushing not only adds fullness, but also evens out color tones of the lips. However, if clients have skin or medical conditions related to lips, the procedure could trigger an outbreak.

What color to choose?

You could create a custom color for the client. Take inspiration from their favorite lipstick colors ‒ rose, coral, or brown tones ‒ and mix a color that meshes with their skin tone. The possibilities are endless!

How long does it last?

Like microblading, lip blushing is saturated at first then the color settles in. It can last several years. Routine lip care applies: moisturize and apply lip balm.

Is it painful?

Even with numbing, there may be a little discomfort. Apply topical anesthetic about 20 minutes before the procedure. Since the skin on lips is more porous, the anesthetic actually sets in much more effectively.

What’s the healing process?

Since it is a tattoo, the client’s lips will be swollen and the color saturated at first. It’s important to advise clients to let scabs fall off naturally to avoid scarring (and losing pigment.) When healing is complete, the color fades and blends in with natural lip color.

What do I need?

  • Anesthetic: Choose a numbing cream or gel.
  • Needles: Lip blushing is done with digital tools and fine needles.
  • Pigment: The beauty of lip blush is that you can mix colors.
